We met "Smithy" when we were both working at West London Air Terminal 48 years ago.Colin met him working together for B.T maintaining the phones based at the terminal. Ingrid, who worked fro BEA met him through Colin.
Colin & the BT "boys" at the terminal always used to laugh at "Smithy" learning his Masonic words in a corner of the office they all shared. Ingrid met him when newly single "Smithy" said he ate cold beans out of a tin when he got home. As a new bride Ingrid wanted to show off her cooking skills so he would often pop in for dinner on his way home before he finished the night at The 3 Crutches or Crootches as he preferred to call it.
We always shared a joke about the B.T chap who scarpered off with all the beers the boys were going to share after our wedding reception.
In later life we enjoyed Masonic functions, meeting his new family, bacon rolls & coffee & a few Christmases spent together.
We have some very good & happy memories of Smithy which will remain with us forever
love Ingrid & Colin
